Squarespace
Squarespace, set up properly rather than left on defaults.
Elite Dev builds Squarespace sites for Australian businesses from $500 ex GST. Squarespace suits design-led businesses that want something that looks considered without a custom build. Most Squarespace sites underperform because nobody went past the template.
The templates are genuinely good. The default settings are not, and that is where almost all the value is.
Where the value is
What we change that nobody else does.
A template gets you 70% of the way. This is the other 30%.
Page titles and descriptions
Squarespace will happily ship every page titled after the template. We write them properly, because that is what shows in search results.
Image weight
The default upload path leaves enormous images in place. Resized and compressed, most Squarespace sites get materially faster.
Real content structure
Headings in a sensible order, not styled by eye. It is what search engines and screen readers both rely on.
Forms that reach you
Connected, tested and confirmed — not left going to an address nobody checks.
Analytics and conversion tracking
So you can tell whether the site is doing anything.
The mobile pass
Squarespace's mobile view needs its own attention. Most sites never get it.
Honest comparison
Squarespace against the alternatives.
Same question we ask on every build: who edits this after launch?
Prettier out of the box, lower ceiling
If you want it to look good with minimal fuss, Squarespace wins. If you will need custom functionality, WordPress does.
More design-led, less flexible
Squarespace's templates are more considered. Wix's editor gives you more freedom to move things and more rope to hang yourself with.
You cannot export it either
Like Wix, leaving means rebuilding. Worth knowing before you start.
Websites from $500 ex GST
One page $500. Up to five pages $1,000. Up to twelve $2,500. All ex GST, quoted before we start. Bigger or custom builds are priced on scope.
Frequently asked questions
Can you work with a template I have already chosen?
Yes. If you have picked one you like we will build on it. If it fights what you need the site to do, we will say so before we start rather than after.
Is Squarespace good for SEO?
The fundamentals are fine. The reason Squarespace sites often rank poorly is that nobody wrote the titles, compressed the images or structured the headings — all of which we do.
Can I sell on Squarespace?
Yes, for a small catalogue. Beyond about 50 products, or if you have real fulfilment needs, Shopify is the better tool.
Who pays the Squarespace subscription?
You do, directly, so the account stays in your name and you keep control.
